Poetry Elements I’m a poet and didn’t know it!

Rhythm Is the pattern, meter, or beat found in poetry. Poets use rhythm to bring out the musical quality of language, to stress ideas, to create moods, and to make you feel emotions!

Annabel Lee It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; Analyze the Poem: Notice how the rhyming words at the ends of the lines create a songlike pattern of sounds that repeats. That’s rhythm baby!

The Charge of the Light Brigade Half a league, half a league Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred How does the poet create the rhythm of horses galloping.

What does the Rhythm do in this poem? We have a long way to go before we’ve solved the problem of pollution; a long way to go before we’ve solved the problems of homelessness and poverty; a long way to go before we’ve solved the problems of our world. We’ve got a long way to go, but we never get there without taking the first step.

Rhyme Is the similar or identical sounds at the end of 2 or more words. Rhymes within a single line is called INTERNAL RHYME. – Class is done, students run, to recess with their friends. Rhymes that occur at the ends of lines are called END RHYME. – Little squirrel on the fence – So relaxed, never tense.

Rhyme

Alliteration Is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words: – Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. – Which circle slowly with a silken swish.

Poe Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping What does the alliteration sound like? What does it make you want to do.

The Speaker The Speaker is the narrator in a narrative poem. A narrative poem is a poem that tells a story. The speaker talks to the reader- similar to narrative fiction.
