BIO bio = life

antibiotic (noun) Definition: A medicine used to save lives because it destroys harmful bacteria and cures infection. Antibiotics help people live by destroying harmful bacteria that get into a person’s body.

autobiography (noun) Definition: A piece of writing written by a person about his or her own life. My Life in the NBA By Michael Jordan Have you read the new book by Michael Jordon? It is an autobiography of his life in the NBA.

biography (noun) Definition: A piece of writing about a person’s life written by someone else. HILLARY DUFF BY T. KAISER The new biography on Hillary Duff was well written by the teenage author, T. Kaiser.

biologist (noun) Definition: A person who studies living things. The biologist had been studying the effects of sunlight on plant life.

biology (noun) Definition: The study of living things. In biology you study plants, animals and human life.

biopsy (noun) Definition: The removal of living tissue from the body for diagnostic examination. The doctor took a biopsy of the growth in his stomach to determine whether or not it was cancer.

biosphere (noun) Definition: The zone of planet Earth where there is life (between the deep crust and the lower atmosphere). We live in the biosphere of planet Earth.

Macrobiotic Diet (noun) Definition: A diet thought to help people live longer because it focuses on natural foods. My 80 year old grandfather is starting a macrobiotic diet so that he can live until he is 100 years old.

Neurobiology (noun) Definition: The study of the nervous system of living things and how it helps living things learn and react. The area of science that investigates how the brain affects the body is neurobiology.

symbiosis (noun) Definition: How two different living organisms live together and depend on each other. An excellent location to see symbiosis in action is the rainforest; plants and animals depend on each other for survival.
