School Zones School Zones can be located:  On city streets  On busy highways There’s no universal sign design, and some are even rather complicated.

You just passed that school zone sign with the times listed. Is the reduced speed limit in effect? What should you do? Keep in mind that some jurisdictions prohibit cell phone use in school zones. You should avoid any distraction while travelling through a school zone. School Zones

Because of their size, it is difficult for children to see motorists or for motorists to see them. Because their peripheral vision is about one-third narrower than an adult’s, children can’t see a motorist approaching from the right or left as soon as an adult can. Children also have difficulty judging a vehicle’s speed and distance, and they often think that if they can see the driver, the driver sees them.

True or False? You won’t see school buses during the summer. False: They may be more common during the school year but you can expect to see one any time of year, and you should expect it to stop and pick up or drop off kids. School Zones

True or False? A school bus is only required to stop at a railroad crossing if it’s carrying passengers. False: They must always stop at railroad crossings unless it’s marked “exempt”. School Buses

Question: Are you always required to stop for a school bus that is loading or unloading? Answer: In most states you are not required to stop if the bus is in the opposite lanes and there’s a median or barrier. School Buses © 2014 Your Company Resource Fort Wayne, IN
