6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Part One: The Motivational Gifts Continued

 Leadership literally means “stand before”.  With diligence – literally “fast obedience.”  Make sure you are quick to follow God and not lead people in a wrong direction.

 Guard your motivation in leadership. Don’t be motivated by power, money, having your own way etc. Modus operandi- quick submission to God.

 Mercy that is a gift of Spirit is not merely a highly sensitive or compassionate person – they can be an easy target for manipulation.  The Gift of Mercy - Not simply compassion that can be misdirected or compromised but sensitive mercy cheerfully applied and loyal to God’s covenant – Micah 6:8.

 Helping people without enabling unhealthy behavior.  Mercy and Justice are not mutually exclusive. The Gift of Mercy brings God’s justice in a tenderhearted way.  Cheerfulness is from ἱ λαρότητι (hilarotēti) – hilarious!!!!

 The Gift of Mercy doesn’t create a burned out, heartbroken giver of mercy. Hilariously be merciful – enjoying that you are bringing Jesus to people and people closer to Jesus.

Part Two: The Ministry Gifts

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

 Greek transliteration that means “sent ones”.  Started with the twelve.  Continued with the 72 as in Luke 10:1.  Listed in both I Cor. 12:27-31 and Eph. 4:11-13

 Foreign and home missionaries.  Can include short term but is usually associated with long term ministry as Romans 11:29 tells us the gifts and calling of God are never taken away.  Primarily fulfilling the purpose of reaching the Lost.

 Literally “taking hold of things.” These people see needs and step in to meet them.  Very similar and overlaps the gift of service or ministry from Romans 12:7.

 Service/Ministry can be more task oriented whereas helps tends to be more people oriented.  Use to build people up and win the lost.  Step up to meet needs here.

 Used to refer to the helmsman who steers the ship. In ancient Greek Plato used it to refer to the Captain in charge. In Modern Greek it is used to refer to airline pilots.  Feminine noun, like deaconess it includes women serving in leadership.

 We need you for organizing and leading small groups!  Use to win the lost and build the body of Christ.
