Who was Martin Luther King Jr.? Born January 15, 1929 Died: April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. was the most important voice of the American civil rights movement, which worked for equal rights for all. He did all he could to make people realize that "all men are created equal." Because of his great work, in 1964 King received the Nobel Peace Prize -- the youngest person ever to receive this high honor. To read more about Dr. Kings life, click here.

March on Washington The March on Washington was a crowd of African American people standing up for their rights. The crowd took a non-violent approach to this which is what made it so famous. To read more about the March On Washington, click here.

In the eleven-year period between 1957 and 1968, King traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times. At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
