Geology The Three Sisters 922 metres (first) 918 metres (second) 906 metres (third) The rocks were formed by erosion . The soft sandstone of the Blue Mountains is eroded easily over time by wind, rain and rivers, and the cliffs surrounding the Jamison Valley are being slowly broken up. Formations like the Three Sisters are created when water goes through into small cracks in the rock, gradually turning bigger over time to form large dents. That was how The Three Sisters were formed.

Significant Features The Three Sisters Legend One dream-time legend has it that three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo ' lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe. These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, a law forbid them to marry. The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters. As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell he killed himself . As only he could reverse the spell to  return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this legend for generations to come.

Climate The climate of the Blue Mountains is somewhat more temperate than the lower Sydney region. There is generally a 2°C drop in temperature every 300 metres increase in altitude. During the Winter months, the upper Blue Mountains, is about 5 Degrees Celsius and the Summer months it is 18 Degrees Celsius. The lower part of the mountains has a warmer temperature while in Winter it is 16 Degrees Celsius and Summer it is 29 Degrees Celsius Cutting Trees=bad to environment
