Background Lack of information on indigenous breeds in developing countries, including characteristics and classification framework ILRI: Development of survey instruments since 1993 (for eventual use by NARS)

Objectives  To identify, classify, and describe livestock genetic resources  To describe the production environments of AnGR  To describe the economic, social and cultural role of AnGR  To describe farmer’s preference for traits and breeds  To estimate the size of the livestock breeds/populations and distribution  To identify causes of threat and possible causes of threat and possible actions to migitate their impacts  To assess the suitability of the field survey methodology and questionnaire design as a tool for breed characterization
