The Tollund Man Murder Mystery!

We have breaking news! A body has been found in a swamp. Police are baffled. The Police need your help to solve this mystery.

What ‘W/H’ questions could we ask to find out what happened? Use what you can see: and what you can infer:

Scientific Report The heart and lungs were healthy when he died. The man had eaten a soup 12 hours before he died. The soup was made up of seeds from Spring. Plants trapped with his body have been found. They are 2,000 years old.

Information Update Iron Age people buried their dead with neck rings as an offering to the Spring Goddess. German Tribes drowned cowards in swamps under sticks. The German tribes used to sacrifice slaves to the goddess of Spring. Have these facts changed your opinion?

So what do you think really happened?

Imagine it is the year 3011 and you have come across this rare artifact. What clues would it give you about the civilization it is from?

Summary What other artifacts could give future archaeologists clues about our civilization? What kind of clues would each artifact give? Why would each artifact give these clues? Why is archaeology an important tool in social studies?

How can we use critical thinking to make discoveries about history?

Use Critical Thinking… What are the skills of a social scientist? Why would a social scientist need to have these skills?
