NAB Church Enrichment Mobilizing and Developing Leaders

How did Jesus Develop Leaders? Ask potential leaders to HELP you and your ministry. (start with small tasks) LOOK for character qualities in real life. CHALLENGE potential leaders to make sacrifices to follow you and be equipped. Encourage them with a desirable FUTURE. Prioritize spending TIME with them.

How did Jesus Develop Leaders? Let them be WITH YOU. –Jesus model Observation-Instruction-Practice –ASK them key questions. –Principle: LIFE contextual learning Give them short-term ministry RESPONSIBILITES.

Steps toward Developing Leaders SET the direction. Call people to make radical COMMITMENTS to Christ and the church. ENVISION a process of how people move toward leadership. Wisely SELECT those to develop. –Success is: 20 % management 80 % selection

How to make Good Selections Look at their TRACK records. OBSERVE their character and values. Assess how well they do their FUNDAMENTAL responsibilities. –Home & Work Find out how OTHERS view them. Do they really BUY INTO your vision & strategy. Do they and their spouse LIKE you and your spouse?

How to make Good Selections Make prayer for developing leaders a PRIORITY!!! John 17

Common Mistakes Pastor holds TOO MUCH for TOO LONG. Pastor delegates TOO MUCH – TOO FAST. Poor SELECTION process. Too little TRAINING or coaching. Too little SUPERVISION. –Stay close EARLY –Find things they are doing RIGHT and ENCOURAGE them. –Consider consequences of letting dropped ball SLIDE.

Remember! People do what we inspect, Not what we expect!
