Add and Subtracting Positive Numbers
Positive Number- A number greater than zero
Negative Numbers- A number that is less than zero
Absolute Value- The distance of a number from 0 on a number line |3| = 3 |-1|= 1 |-5| = 5
Opposite Numbers- Numbers whose values add up to
Integers- Integers are all of the whole numbers and all of their opposites on a number line including 0 Definition
Hint If you do not see a sign attached to a number, the number is positive Ex: 9 = +9
Addition of Integers Rule #1 If the signs are the same, pretend the signs aren’t there. Add the numbers and then put the sign in front of your answer.
Solve = = (+4) + (+3) = = =
Addition of Integers Rule #2 If the signs are different, pretend the signs aren’t there. Subtract the larger number from the smaller number and then put the sign of the larger number in front of your answer.
Solve = = = = = = =
Using A Number Line

Solve = = = = = =
