PSA

Causes of Human Trafficking Gender Imbalance – Boys outnumber girls – Needed for brides and females arise One-Child Policy – Created in 1979 by Diao Xiaoping, the one child policy was devised to prevent the growing number of Communists throughout China. – The policy was intended to limit the risk of communist threat, instead of limit the number of members within a family. – Families were willingly selling their children in order to make an income.

Why should you care?

Organizations All Girls Allowed – Rescue victims of the One-Child Policy through four programs Ending Gendercide-educating families against female gendercide and providing monthly stipends that ease that burden of having a baby girl. Educating Abandoned Girls- Providing scholarships for abandoned girls to receive primary, secondary and post-secondary education. Rescuing Trafficked Children-Resourcing parents to find their kidnapped children through an online search database and search and rescue campaigns. Defending Mothers-Providing legal defense to forced abortion victims as well as mothers who are in danger of forced abortion or forced sterlilization

Organizations (cont’d) EPCAT – EPCAT International is a global network of organizations and individuals working together for the elimination of child prostitution, child pornography and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes. Salvation Army – National Anti-Trafficking Council Created in 2003 Used to promote and support the work that the Salvation Army is doing to stop human trafficking

Organizations (cont’d) UNICEF – In 2002, UNICEF partnered with China to create what is called the “ Elimination of Trafficking, Zero Tolerance Plan” – Designed to help decrease the “demand” for Chinese women and children within the working force. – Monies from this organization go to public awareness campaigns intended for farmers to educate them about the dangers physically, emotionally and mental towards the victims
