Emerald Choice Operations in a New Era Emerald Choice was designed to meet the growing need to address environmentally preferred methods to clean Green at Citywide is …?

Emerald Choice  Green is the lens through which we look at a building  Look through the lens and ask…can we do it better?  Can we recycle, reduce or reuse  Is it sustainable?

Emerald Choice  Sustainability  Meeting the needs of today without compromising our ability to meet the needs of the future  We borrow the earth from our kids  Can we afford it when times are tough?

Emerald Choice  How do we choose better?  Chemicals  Equipment  Consumables  Recycling  Training

Chemicals  Green Seal  Founded in 1989  Certifies many products and services  Supported by the suppliers as the standard  Cost neutral  What “green” means to many  No disinfectant claims  Use reduced risk products

Equipment  IC will have more costs  Investment in microfiber mandated  Microfiber technology is undeniable  Captures dirt 2 ways  Micro fiber doc in EC manual  Walks off!!! Needs a system

More Equipment  Multi filer vacuums – Backpacks  Low dust floor machines  Low moisture carpet cleaning  Mixture control

Consumables  Green Seal  DfE- EPA program that is very effective  No aerosols  Liners with recycled content  Many choices depending on $$$

Recycling  Easy to do through trash collector  Large bins or desk pick-up  Other items  Very effective Green activity

Training  Same methodology applies to traditional cleaning  Additional training on environmental factors needed  Don’t need to change crews  Any successful IC can succeed in EC also

Shades Of Green  Shades of green will be presented to the customer based on the needs of the customer and financial situation  Light to Dark available

How to use  Customer chooses based on the level of Green they desire  We suspect most in light Green and then Green  Ops verifies IC has the equipment and chemicals in place to meet the criteria  Use spreadsheet and audit survey

NM Role  Night Managers need to know the level of Green purchased and what to look for  Biggest success factor is ridding the building of the old stuff  Non-negotiable with IC if they want to clean the building

QCM Role  QCMs need to present the program via the “Quick Guide”  Explain the program as a new service  Be careful to only present to clean buildings  High soil and Green don’t mix well  All suppliers have the goods

More QCM  Be very clear with IC what the expectations are  Become familiar with the spreadsheets  Consumables spreadsheet also  Check closet for the “wrong stuff”  Assure the customer they are GREEN!!

Disinfectant…?  Green Seal does not have one  Explain that we will use a reduced risk disinfectant and GS otherwise  Same strategy can be employed where needed like floorwork perhaps

Pricing  Light Green is traditional pricing  Green is plus 5%  Dark Green is 10%  Use bid sheet to resolve any other issues

Other issues  LEED is not Green and vice versa  We are prepared to help with LEED if needed  “Green” competitors don’t exist…..get DOO or owner invovled quick

Marketing Materials  4 color piece  Quick Guide  Continuum  Quick Guide is best to give to current customer

QCM and Consumables  Get vendor to put together package that mirrors your spreadsheet  Get mats  Present it all and let them decide  Remember to remind them that they are “Green” by the fact that they are making these choices

Final thoughts  Control the equipment  Pick low soil buildings  Assure the customer they are doing a very Green thing  Understand what it menas to be Green  Emerald choice makes it very easy
