New activities Tour de Table – Lithuania Kestutis Kadunas, Geological Survey of Lithuania

Programs Preparation of the POP’s National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention (2006). State Program of Geological investigations “Geology and sustainable development” 2006 – Program “Groundwater resources evaluation and drinking water supply 2007 – 2025” (May 31,2006). Program of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for 2004 – 2008.

Program of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for To modernize the water management sector, to establish, on a regional basis, an efficient system of administrative institutions. In order to ensure the proper quality of drinking water, to draft and start the implementation of the program for the evaluation of underground water resources and their use for drinking water supply, to complete the stocktaking of potential geological environmental pollution hot spots, to set specific goals for groundwater protection. To site 11 new dumps (sanitary landfills), to close the majority of old dumps and clean up the affected territories. To prepare program of clean up of former pesticides storage sites contaminated by pesticides.

National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention Identification and remediation of territories contaminated by POP’s (2006 – 2015). To set threshold values for all POP’s (2006 – 2007) (groundwater soil, sludge, etc.). To prepare and implement environment monitoring program ( three levels) (2006 – 2015).

“Geology and sustainable development” To create and develop data base of sites contaminating geo – environment (possible connection to Land register).

Groundwater resources evaluation and drinking water supply 2007 – 2025 Detect all potential groundwater pollution sources in drinking water protection areas (DWPA) Evaluate risk to drinking water sources. To schedule prevention or clean up measures.
