Making the Most of a Day in the Field Doug Adolph Greater Illinois Chapter

Session Description  As a walk manager or committee volunteer, much of your time is spent interacting with your walk community and making our presence known. Planning an effective field day will assist in time management, meeting objectives and appropriate follow- up. This session will talk through that process and provide you with tips and tools to make every visit count.

Review of Today’s Agenda  Overview of Days in the Field  Prepping and Planning for a Field Day  You’re planning is done, now what?  Follow up and thanks – most important!  Q & A  Wrap-Up & Call to Action

Overview of Days in the Field  Staff should be spending at least one day per week per event in the field (if you are responsible for a smaller number of events, this number should increase).  100 Team Plan  What do you do on your current field days?

Prepping and Planning for a Field Day  Guide to Your Community Document  Who do you meet with on a Field Day?  Making Appointments versus just stopping by…  Where to visit on a Field Day?  What and who to bring on a field day?

Your planning is done, now what?  Set goals for a Field Day  Teams, Sponsors, Committee Members, Day of Event Volunteers, Publicity, and most important – the Alzheimer’s Association is a community organization, here for members of the community!  A little role playing!  Make an ask and have a backup.  Don’t memorize a script, have a dialogue.  Important things to mention…  Leave with a follow-up plan

Follow-up and Thanks!  Hand written thank you note within 24 hours.  If you promised materials, make sure to send them ASAP  Assess your priorities after a Field Day.
