 Conference between Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin.  They decided that British and American soldiers would invade France, and begin a March towards Germany.  D-Day

 February 1945  Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin met at Yalta to discuss final strategy and crucial questions concerning the postwar world.  They decided that Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania would hold free elections  Stalin later reneged on this promise.

 Potsdam Conference:  (July 17–Aug. 2, 1945)  Negotiate terms for end of World War II  Determined postwar boarders of Europe  President Truman discussed the successful detonation of the Atomic Bomb  Potsdam Declaration  Threatened Japan with “prompt and utter destruction “ if they did not surrender

 The Japanese did not want to surrender and considered it a question of honor to defend homeland  To justify large expense of Manhattan Project  Punish Japan  Save American Lives
