Learning Intention We are learning to deepen our understanding of the Vision and Mission of the CMSP for mathematics.

Success Criteria We will be successful when we can…  Make connections between the vision and mission of the CMSP and the role of the district MTL.

The Vision of the CMSP Every MPS Student is Mathematically and Scientifically Literate 4

What does mathematical literacy mean to you? Briefly write down your understanding of mathematical literacy. Share it with your table group. Read the district’s vision of mathematical literacy. How is your definition similar or different to the vision put forth by MPS?

CMSP Mission Use the next 10 minutes to: Read pages of the CMSP plan. Highlight phrases that are significant in understanding mission of the CMSP- Mathematics section.

What’s the “Gist” of the CMSP Vision and Mission Statements As a table group, create a paragraph capturing the “gist” of the vision and mission of the CMSP as it relates to mathematics instruction. You must use each of the words that were gathered in the group list. They don’t have to be in the same sentence. Be prepared to share out your paragraphs.

Comprehensive Mathematics and Science Plan (CMSP) Goals: 1. Improve mathematics and science instruction. 2. Increase student achievement in mathematics and science. 3. Prepare students to be college and career ready. 8

Making Connections As a District MTL, why is it important for you to be able to articulate the Vision and Mission of the CMSP? In what way will the three tools of the CMSP – Mathematics, provide a path to make the vision and mission a reality?
