Types of Compositions Sonata- literally means a piece played Symphony- extended musical composition scored almost always for orchestra. Concerto- is a musical composition usually composed in three parts or movements, in which (usually) one solo instrument (for instance, a piano, violin, cello or flute) is accompanied by an orchestra. Opera- is an art form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work combining text and musical score, usually in a theatrical setting.

Franz Joseph Hadyn was an Austrian composer "Father of the Symphony" "Father of the String Quartet" Left home to study music at the age of 6 and never again lived with his parents again. Carried out a prank by cutting off the pigtail of a fellow choir member. This caused him to be kicked out of the place that he lived leaving him homeless. Studied with the composer Haydn. At age 26, he began to lose his hearing. He composed his entire Symphony No. 9 completely deaf. Some believe that Beethoven suffered from bipolar disorder. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. Worked with many other famous composers at a young age traveling to many places while doing so. Many of his teachers felt that they weren’t talented enough to teach Mozart. Had a reputation for a party life style and often had confrontations with people he worked for. He acquired many debts because he managed his money poorly. He grew very ill but was persistent that he finish writing his final piece, “The Requiem” which was never completed. He died at age 35 in which the cause is claimed to be unknown.
