ETISEO Project Evaluation for video understanding Nice, May th 2005 Evaluation du Traitement et de l’Interprétation de Séquences vidEO

ETISEO is part of the Techno-Vision program Partially funded by the French government. 2 years duration, starting in January 2005 To evaluate vision techniques for video surveillance application. ETISEO / Techno-Vision

Main objectives - To promote evaluation usage in image processing domain, - To diffuse good practices, - To create perrennial evaluation structure.

The way - To support resources generation, - To support evaluation cycles, - Partially funding project as ETISEO, - Encourage active participation.

ETISEO principles - Open participation, - European dimension, - Discussion among partipants to define : - tasks of interest (segmentation, …) - video contents, - metrics.

Detailed Objectives -To create two ontologies: one for technical concepts used in the whole video interpretation chain, one for concepts of the application domain. - To conceive automatic evaluation tools for vision algorithms to allow a fair and quantitative comparison between algorithm results and reference data. - To acquire precise knowledge of vision algorithms to diagnose technological limits.

Video configuration Considered configurations: - Static camera, fix lens, - Color/N&B and/or IR sensor, - Mono or multi cameras configuration, - Indoor or outdoor, - People and/or vehicles tracking, - Vehicules recognition, - Events recognition. Video surveillance applications

ETISEO Ressources ETISEO will generate resources to be diffused to the participants : - Corpus data ( work, test & evaluation), - Ground truth ( video annotations), - Specific metrics, - Automatic comparison tool.

Corpus Data - Several data providers, offering large possibilities and diversity - Exploiting existing equipments, - Recording specific ETISEO corpus data, - corresponding to initial choices, - focusing on specific topics.

Project committee INRIA Sophia-Antipolis–ORION, scientific leader. SILOGIC S.A., Coordinator, evaluator, Data provider. INRETS-LEOST, Data provider. C.E.A.-LIST, Data provider.

Participation - All participants are welcome to participate. - Voluntary is the rule: participants are expected to test their algorithms on their own and to send their results to the evaluator. - After the participant’s commitment, video database with ground truth and metrics with evaluation tools will be transmitted. - All participants will be welcome to attend freely workshops organized during the project.
