Why should President Lincoln be considered a Civil Rights Leader for the 1800’s?

Sample Journal President Lincoln should be considered a Civil Rights leader for the 1800’s because he took a stand for the African-Americans in our country. In his Emancipation Proclamation, he declared that on January 1, 1863, all slaves in the Confederacy would be “forever free”.
