Overview Getting Members Keeping Members Making Lifelong Members

Getting Members College Chapter –Go to classes to talk about what EWB-USA is Both freshman and upper level classes –Register as a Registered Student Organization (RSO) –Set up a both at organization fairs Typically at the beginning of each year –Non-engineer can be members Look at the social work, sciences, and foreign languages –Go make presentations about what EWB-USA is to other organizations to generate interest –By word of mouth Tell people why you love EWB-USA

Getting Members Professional Chapter –Speak at ASCE, TSPE, or other engineering organizations –Look at civic groups to get non-engineers involved –Talk to co-workers Do brown bag presentation of your projects at work –By word of mouth Tell people why you love EWB-USA

Keeping Members It is easy to get members, but the hardest part is to keep members This is not only an EWB-USA problem it is in all organizations

Keeping Members Keep members actively involved –Meet on a consistent basis –Put people on a committee –Have service projects locally –Have multiple people working on each EWB- USA project –If people feel needed they will stay –Have fun social events

Keeping Members Create a sense of community within the group –Make people feel like they are helping the chapter –Speak to people who are not connected Bring them into the chapter and get them involved –Care for all members –Make new members feel welcome –Follow up with members you have not seen in a while

Making Lifelong Members Plan to be evolved with EWB-USA past college Get involved on a state, regional or national level In the professional chapters you do projects like in college chapters Find a professional chapter near where you get a job, or start one where you are –A list of all chapters are located on the national website –Professional chapters are easier to start than college chapters

Making Lifelong Members University freshmen/sophomore –EWB student chapter member University junior/senior/grad student –EWB student chapter officer/project lead –Serve as student representative on national policymaking committees Professional, 1-3 yrs exp –Unofficial mentor of student chapter –Member of professional chapter –Project Manager or Officer of Professional Chapter –Begin involvement at regional level as state rep, committee member or an officer Professional, 3-5 yrs exp –Registered Tier 1 mentor –Member of professional chapter –Project Manager or Officer of Professional Chapter –Involvement at regional level as state rep, exec officer –Participate in TAC, H&S, etc. Professional, 5-7 yrs exp –Registered Tier 2 mentor w/ PE –Project Manager or Officer of Professional Chapter –Involvement at regional level as exec officer –Participate in TAC, H&S, etc. –Serve on national policymaking committees  Professional, 7+ yrs exp –Registered Tier 3 mentor w/ PE –Project Manager or Officer of Professional Chapter –Involvement at regional level as senior exec officer –Lead TAC, H&S, etc. –Chair national policymaking committees
