Presentation transcript:

Rounders is a sport originally from England. It involves batting & bowling. When batting, people use a wooden bat. There are 4 ways that a batter can be out. They are: A fielder catches the ball cleanly, running to or touching a base that had been stumped by a fielder, they drop the bat while running & leave the base before the bowler had bowled.

Objective: Two teams of nine players must try & score more Rounders than the other team in an innings. An innings could be for a certain amount of time, or players out. It is up to the players & the organisers of the game. Usually two innings are played for each team. The fielding team will try to & limit the team’s Rounder’s scored, & get the batter out if they can by bowling & batting.

The ball will be bowled (thrown) to the batter. If it is a good bowl (legal delivery), the batter will try & hit it, then run to the first post, whether they hit the ball or not. If it is a no ball, then they don’t have to run, but if they do, they cannot be out at the first post.

A Rounders pitch in NRA (National Rounders Association) is square metres. A Bowler’s Square is 2.5 metres. The batting area is 12 metres. In GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association), a Rounders pitch is 70 metres. A Bowler’s Square & other bases (batting area etc.) are all 25 metres.

The Ball – A white, round ball around, with a circumference centimetres (7-8 inches), & it should weigh between 65 & 85 grammes (2.2 to 3 ounces). The Bat – The bat can be any length up to 46 centimetres (18 inches).
