Journal Entry #1 Hi! My name is Ohcumgache. It means “little wolf.” I am part of the Yuki tribe. This is my story…  That’s Me! (add picture of “me” here.)

One morning, I woke up to a face full of smoke and my house was on fire! I quickly put it out. I live in a bark house, near the coast. We build them out of redwood trees. We would dig a foot out of the ground and put the dirt around the house to prevent water from coming in. one time I built my own miniature bark house, but my little brother went on the roof and it caved in.

After a long, hard day, we finally get to have dinner! We mainly eat fish and shellfish.

Journal Entry #2 We yuki Indians live in the valleys of Northern California. I love living in the plains because at night, we can hear the wolves on the mountains howling at the moon.

Some plants that I just are, 1: the Anemone deltoidea flower.  2: the Blechnum spicant fern  3: the Maianthemum dilatum plant 

Journal Entry #3 Today we had a TERRIFIYING thunder storm. It was unusual because we usually get sunny warm weather where we are. I love it because I always get to play and it is always never to hot and never to cold. One day when I was playing, my friend, (his Indian name is notch, but his REAL name is Markus.) he always dreams of inventing some sort of game called “mine craft,” anyway… he said that when he was first born, he had a SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIDALIDOSTIOS storm that wiped out the ENTIRE village!

How we survive the storm… In our houses, well the one we live in too, we dig a foot out of the ground where our floor is and put the dirt around the outside to keep the inside dry. When it rains, I do nothing but stay inside and sit. I call it a DERPY TROLL day. It is mainly sunny, so we just play and have fun. One day when we WERE playing, we heard loud lighning and thunder. We all screamed and said “WHAT THE HE—” at the same time.

0_0 Derp… (reflection #1) I was playing in the woods by myself, when I came across something shiny. On the side it said “TIME MACHINE ©” It was strange. There was a button and a lever. I pulled the lever to a number that said “2013” then I pushed the button. I say bright, bright lights and I closed my eyes and I think I fell asleep. I woke up in some kind of room with our houses and our tools. Nobody was there and it was dark outside. I saw a light and I ran inside of my, or what I thought was my house. When I was inside, I found out that the floor was not dug out and fake! There was a waxy man inside that was frozen. I was scared.

Night at the museum I ran outside and there was a man wearing long pants and long shirts. It was made out of blue buffalo skin I thought. He was strange looking and held a silver stick with light coming out of it. I asked him a question in our native language, but he looked confused. So I asked him in “English” and he said “your in the Smithsonian kid.” he asked me why I was in the ancient native American Exhibit. I answered “I don’t know.”

“The Talk” I asked him many questions and I found out that there are no more yuki Indians and that no one practices what we do. All of us are dead I thought… It was strange pictures that kept coming in my mind about my tribe. I asked about notch and he said that he is 62 and he has invented a video game called “minecraft” also I asked more and my tribe was doing ok, but then over time, all of them switched over to modern style of doing things.

Reflection #2 To be honest, I think I will get maybe like a B or higher. I think this because there was not a lot of websites with real information and when it was it wasn’t a lot and not completely helpful. I also think it will be a little high because I think I put a lot of thought in some of the slides and things like that. I reeeeaaaaally tried to get information, also there was not a lot of pictures and things. I hope I will do good on this project. I worked reeeeaaaaally hard to make it. -Ethan K.
