Relay For Life The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. ( relay) relay My sorority participated in our on- campus Relay for Life. We put up a tent and sold chips and drinks and donated the money to the American Cancer Society.

-Increases retention -Provides quality education -Enhances personalized education for students -Teaches positive values, leadership, citizenship and personal responsibility. -Encourages faculty to be innovative and creative in their teaching. -Helps with community education. -Teaches job skills and prepares students for careers after college. -Increases campus-community collaboration and partnerships. (Keys to Success- Vsu Edition, p.392)

Hoops N’ Hogs is a basketball tournament that teams enter in support of my sorority’s philanthropy: The Ronald McDonald House. Each team has to pay a certain amount of money that is donated to our philanthropy. It is a fun tournament that helps raise money for a great cause. Hoops N Hogs for Alpha Delta Pi

The Ronald McDonald House Ronald McDonald House Charities is dedicated to improving children’s access to the highest quality health care. For example, the Ronald McDonald House, allows families to access specialized medical treatment by providing a place to live at little to no cost. (

E very year, Alpha Delta Pi splits our pledge class in half to do our philanthropy event. One half visits one of the actual Ronald McDonald houses and bakes for kids and helps clean the house. I was in the group that went to a Ronald McDonald event located at the Macon airport. Unhealthy children supported by the Ronald McDonald Foundation came and spent the morning doing activities. We all helped pass out food and entertain the kids with games and a plane-pull.

One of my friend’s dog had puppies and we took them to the animal shelter in Valdosta so they could be neutered and find a family. I participated in a skit for Zeta’s Big Man on Campus event to raise money for breast cancer.

Second Harvest Food Bank The mission of Second Harvest Food Bank of South Georgia is to end hunger. It is a non-profit organization. I volunteered here by helping send out thank you notes to those who donate food and also send out letters to people requesting donations to help the organization grow.

- Community service has taught me many ways on how to help out our community while having a lot of fun. - It feels good to know that I dedicated hours of my days with no pay to help others. - Seeing all of my friends and sisters come together for a good cause is fun and a great way to bond. - I learn a lot from community service, including possible jobs I may want to pursue in the future.
