Create a new entry in your math journal…. Title it Elapsed Time Review. Using any strategy you know from last year, solve the following problem. Justin has to be at cross country practice at 6:30 am. Ms. Pohly has to be at work no later than 7:20 am. It takes Ms. Pohly fifteen minutes to drive Justin to school, and another fifteen minutes to drive from his school to her school. When is the latest Ms. Pohly can leave her house and make sure Justin and her are both on time to school and work? Review Skill

3.1: Riding Ferris Wheels One of my favorite amusement park rides is the Ferris Wheel. Kate likes it too, but she prefers a smaller one that is less scary. I got on a large Ferris Wheel at the same time Kate got on the small Ferris Wheel and our rides started at the same time. How many seconds will pass before Kate and I are both at the bottom again if our Ferris Wheels do not turn at the same speed because hers is smaller than mine? Daily Lesson

Strategy: We have learned a strategy that you could use to solve this problem. In your journal, write about what strategy you think it could be? Read the following question and see if it helps you determine the strategy you could use: 1.My Ferris Wheel makes one whole revolution (which means turn) every 60 seconds and Kate’s makes one whole revolution every 20 seconds.

More Problems…what if… 2. My large Ferris Wheel makes one revolution in 50 seconds and Kate’s small wheel makes one revolution in 30 seconds? OR if…. 3. My large wheel makes one revolution in 10 seconds and Kate’s small wheel makes one revolution in 7 seconds? *For #’s 1-3, how many times will each wheel go around before both are on the ground again?

Applying a Venn Diagram How could you use a Venn Diagram to answer questions 1-3? Work with your table group and record your work in your math journal. Be ready to share out in five minutes.

Odds and Evens Practice Turn to page 26 in your student book. Complete A #’s 1-6 & B on the notecard in the middle of the table. This is an independent assignment, so do not work with your table groups. When you are done, make sure your name, #, and date are on it and place it in the math tray. Complete this without your math journal or the anchor chart. Exit Ticket
