Atlanta Schools Technology Plan Tasha Ellis Argosy University Dr. Regina Merriwether June 19, 2010

Beliefs Statement  The mission/beliefs/vision of Mary Lin Elementary of Atlanta Pubic Schools is that beliefs drive action. Below are core values and beliefs that the Mary Lin community practices daily.  All students can learn at high levels and if not, they are committed to finding out why. Once they find out why, they create an action plan for success.  Everyone deserves to be treated with respect  Each person should feel safe  Honesty is the foundation for fostering healthy relationships  Life long learning is an environment and vital for personal and professional growth 

Vision  Their vision includes having one system, one focus, and one goal to equal great success for all students.  technology-in-k-12-education.html technology-in-k-12-education.html

Mission Statement  Mary Lin believes that educational experiences will teach the students to value themselves and others by involving each student to a challenging curriculum that builds upon prior knowledge in specific sequence, preparation for being innovative and creative users of technology, and encouraging students to appreciate all cultures.

Four Key Strategic Objectives According to the research, the information technology division has four key Strategic Objectives. The objectives include operational efficiency and effectiveness, which provides optimal performances and utilization of all technology resources. Those resources include people, software, hardware and infrastructure processes.

4 Objectives  Those resources include :  people  software  hardware  infrastructure processes.

Quote from the Superintendent  Atlanta’s Superintendent, Dr. Beverly Hall states, “ Our commitment is to ensure that students have the technology at their fingertips to prepare them for the 21 st century.”  A# A#

Preparation for Technology Support  Atlanta prepares students for technology there is an inclusion of (OTT) The Operational Technology and Telecommunications Department, which provides networking, security, telecommunications, wiring, and technical support for their school system.

OTT Support  OTT provides support services to over 8,000 faculty and staff members. Their services range and include installing and repairing telephones, maintaining network connectivity, providing spam and virus filtering, configuring computers, and trouble shooting computers. The OTT support is provided to over 47,000 students the entire school district.

Strategies for Effective Organizational Structure  In most states, it is the local board that is charged with the responsibility to establish and maintain a basic organizational structure for the local school system, develop curriculum, meet federal and state mandates for public schools, appoint a superintendent and key members of the central office staff, adopt an annual budget, and create a climate that promotes academic excellence.

School Board  The boards make the crucial decisions regarding what needs to take place in the school system.

Copyright  Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act (TEACH Act) Copyright law gives educators a separate set of rights, in addition to fair use, to display and perform the works of other in the classroom.

TEACH Act  However, before the TEACH Act was signed into law in October 2002, a virtual classroom was held to much different standards. The TEACH Act revises the U.S. Copyright Act and expands the scope of educators' rights to perform and display works and to make the copies integral to such performances and displays for distance learning courses and programs.TEACH Act
