Nouns!

A noun is any word that is a… Person boy runner doctor friend baby Patty Bernard students

A noun is any word that is a… Place kitchen farm playground Ohio beach school Cleveland Cleveland …the best city of all time.

A noun is any word that is a… Thing elephant jeans snaggletooth pimple treefeet bicycle yum

A noun is any word that is an… Idea creativity hope tragedy beauty jealousy imagination hatred love

More difficult to identify because they’re defined differently by different people For example: Some say this is beauty. Tricky “idea” nouns Others say this is beauty.

So how can I be sure if something is a noun? A good trick is to put the word “the” in front of something. If it works, it’s probably a noun (unless it’s a proper noun like Patty, Bernard or Cleveland). I can see the love in her eyes. The imagination of that woman is astounding! Let’s go to the beach. The student studied all night. I let the jealousy get the best of me. The elephant was particularly stinky. I tried to pop the zit.

Let’s practice finding nouns! Wahoo! Find the nouns in the following sentences. Hint: Remember the “the” trick. 1.The individuals can view fascinating instruments. 2.Famous performers whose costumes can be seen include John Lennon and Tina Turner. 3. The guitar was supplied by a private collector.

The End! …or is it?
