Talk with an Astronaut Day 1

Concept Talk What is life like for an astronaut?

What do you already know about astronauts and what they do? What personal qualities might be important for an astronaut to have?

Turn to page Astronauts travel in different types of spacecraft. What type of spacecraft is launching in the photograph? Where are the people with computers working? A shuttle is manned, or controlled by astronauts and by a team of people on the ground.

What mission did the astronaut accomplish? What is life like for an astronaut?

Listen: The story “Apollo 13” is about the challenges on a space mission to the moon. Listen for: Manned Launch Command Module Lunar module
