Gathering Hymn: “Isaiah the Prophet”

Opening Prayer Presider: Gracious God, who creates, sustains, and redeems all life, we come seeking your disturbing presence and comforting peace. All: Amen. Presider: We praise you for the joy of being your people. May your Spirit be with us and move within us, in this time of worship. All: Amen. Presider: Give us hearts that hear your Word, and minds that are open to the transforming power of your love. All: Amen.

Prayer of Confession Presider: O God, your fertile earth is slowly being stripped of its riches, All: Open our eyes to see. Presider: O God, your living waters are slowly being choked with chemicals, All: Open our eyes to see. Presider: O God, your clear air is slowly being filled with pollutants, All: Open our eyes to see. Presider: O God, your creatures are slowly dying and your people are suffering, All: Open our eyes to see. Presider: God our maker, so move us by the wonder of creation, All: That we repent and care more deeply. Presider: So move us to grieve the loss of life, All: That we learn to cherish and protect your world.

WORD Isaiah 65: For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress. No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed. (continued)

Isaiah 65: (continued) They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord— and their descendants as well. Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent—its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord.

For the Word of God in Scripture, For the Word of God among us, For the Word of God within us, All: Thanks be to God.

Romans 8:18-25 (spoken in Korean) I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (continued)

Romans 8:18-25 Continued We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. For the Word of God in Scripture, For the Word of God among us, For the Word of God within us, All: Thanks be to God.

Hymn: “Called by Earth and Sky”(MV 135)

Affirmation of Faith We believe in God, who is found in darkness, who made from nothing – light, stars, moons, planets and our home, earth; who ran wild with joy, creating mountains, waves and snowflakes. All different… Who spun a shimmering life where creatures grew and changed, swam, chirped and flew, beings of astonishing variety, each needing all the others, held in a delicate kinship.

Affirmation of Faith God saw that it was very good and laughed and made some more. We believe in God who is found in stillness, who walks in the world, awake and vulnerable, bright as daffodils in the sunshine, who grieves in the quiet for stifled air, wounded forests, silenced voices who names the truth and shoulders the weight of hoping.

Affirmation of Faith We believe in God, who is found in loneliness, who speaks in the dawn birdsong, the grieving call of whales the music of stars. We believe God calls us to love the earth, and to live humbly with the web of relationship.

Prayers of the People We approach the Mercy of God, praying, and singing: VU 948 O God hear my prayer, O God, hear my prayer, when I call, answer me; O God hear my prayer, O God hear my prayer; come, and listen to me.

TABLE Invitation and Peace Communion Hymn “God Who Spread the Boundless Prairie” (MV 53)

The Great Thanksgiving The Spirit of the living Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them in prayer and thanksgiving. Let us give thanks to our God. It is right to give glory and praise.

Therefore, we gladly join our voices with all creation: (MV 203) O holy, holy, holy God, O God of time and space. All earth and sea and sky above bear witness to your grace, Hosanna in the highest heaven; Creation sings your praise. And blessed is the One who comes and bears your name always!

The Breaking of Bread and Filling of the Cup …take, drink, remember me. Sing Christ has died and Christ is risen; Christ will come again! (MV 204) …so take this bread and this cup. In them, God comes to us, so that we may come to God.

We gather these and all our prayers, thankful that we may turn to you as to our Mother, brooding over us, as to Our Father in heaven… (The Lord’s Prayer) Great Amen (MV 205) Amen, Amen, O Holy One! Hosanna and Amen!

Music during Communion: “When at This Table” (MV 199)

Prayer after Communion Presider: This we know, the earth does not belong to us, All: We belong to the earth. Presider: This we know, all things are connected, All: Like the blood that unites one family. Presider: This we know, we did not weave the web of life, All: We are merely a strand in it.

Presider: This we know, whatever we do to the web, All: We do to ourselves. Presider: Let us give thanks for the gift of creation, All: Let us give thanks that all things hold together in Christ.
