G040: Lecture 11 Interactive Booking Form Briefing Notes Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher

Session Objectives Understand how an interactive booking form is constructed

Booking Forms A booking form is a communication which collects information from customers about the holiday they are booking, It should be easy to complete and be a clear record of all aspects of the holiday – omissions will cause problems, A typical booking form will collect information about: Holiday / Flight Details – dates, board basis, airport details etc. Passenger Details, Optional Extras, Deposit details. An interactive booking form is a paperbased form which has been converted

Interactive Booking Forms An interactive booking form is a paper based form which has been converted to be completed on screen using a computer or other device (iPad etc) They allow users to type data into the fields or select options with a pointing device rather than writing or ticking boxes, They are easier to interpret because of no scruffy writing and can use validation to ensure only data of the correct nature is being entered. Validation can include: Presence Check, Data Type Check (number, text, both), Length Check (max / min characters / numerical value), Layout Check (dates postcodes, phone numbers), Passing variables from page to page (e.g. name), Calculations (work out prices, quantities etc)

A Paper Based Booking Form

Follow the communication development cycle again. Draft VersionsCommentaryFinal VersionPlan

Hints and Tips Research booking forms and how to create interactive forms on the internet to build your bibliography up, Create your labels for each item of data your form will collect and any other boxes to format it but leave space for the actual data – this will be added at the end Draft your form as normal ensuring it matches your house style and looks professional - order of the collection fields should be natural - use examples to help you, Maximum of 2 A4 sheets so could be printed out on 1 sheet back to back, Once 100% happy with your form convert to a PDF file and use Acrobat Pro to add in the interactive fields in and save it. Before starting this task - Practice creating simple interactive forms using word then Adobe Acrobat Pro to add the data capture fields in.
