Lee, Taehan Bae, Shannon Park, J.H. Lee, Giriraj G, EunTae Won, Chiu Ngo Contact: Huai-Rong Shao, Samsung Electronics Voice: , Re: [] Abstract: Discuss the problems of data rate specified in the draft PAR 15-07/0575r08. First is the mismatching between the scope section and the purpose section. The second is to discuss whether 10 Mbps is enough for the BAN applications. Purpose:Request the BAN group to increase the maximal data rate to meet the requirements of BAN applications. doc.: IEEE /0xxxr0 Submission November 2007 Huai-Rong Shao et al., SamsungSlide 2 Draft PAR of 15-07/ In 5.2 Scope of Proposed Standard –Support for Quality of Service (QoS), extremely low power, and data rates up to 10 Mbps is required while simultaneously complying with strict non-interference guidelines where needed. In 5.4 Purpose of Proposed Standard –Data rates, typically up to 10Mbps, can be offered to satisfy an evolutionary set of entertainment and healthcare services. Does 10Mbps is enough for BAN applications?

doc.: IEEE /0xxxr0 Submission November 2007 Huai-Rong Shao et al., SamsungSlide 3 Video/Image resolution HD TV/Display interface standard such as HDMI 1.3 supports 1080p with deeper color –Uncompressed video data rate >=3Gbps –Bit rate 1920*1080*3*8 (or 10,12, 16). Handheld devices now already support HD video –Cannon HV20 HD camcorder –Sony GV-HD700E HD Video Walkman –etc Video glasses support high resolution now –I-O Display i-glasses VIDEO - Head mounted display x 600 –etc.

doc.: IEEE /0xxxr0 Submission November 2007 Huai-Rong Shao et al., SamsungSlide 5 MPEG4/H.264 AVC Stream Useful standard for portable devices and internet video applications Data rate usually from 64Kbps to 15Mbps, but can be up to 240Mbps for HD video

doc.: IEEE /0xxxr0 Submission November 2007 Huai-Rong Shao et al., SamsungSlide 6 3D Video for CE Entertainment Applications Multiple HD MPEG2 or H.264/MPEG-4 AVC streams are transmitted simultaneously –At least 3 streams More bandwidth is required

doc.: IEEE /0xxxr0 Submission November 2007 Huai-Rong Shao et al., SamsungSlide 7 Medical Image/video Applications Lossless compression may be needed to keep image quality –Image resolution even bigger than HD video for CE devices –Usually compression ratio is about 3:1 to 10:1 10 Mbps may not be enough to support medical image/video sensor allications

doc.: IEEE /0xxxr0 Submission November 2007 Huai-Rong Shao et al., SamsungSlide 8 Conclusion 10 Mbps is not enough to support many BAN applications Recommendation –The group specify higher data rate than 10Mbps to meet the requirements of BAN applications
