1 Study the motion of an object with ticker timer 2 Calculate speed velocity acceleration and deceleration based on ticker timer 3 Solve problems on linear motion using equations of motion

What is ticker timer?

Is a device used to study the motion of an object for a short period of time Vibrating steel strip will vibrate 50 times every second and make 50 dots a second on a tape being pulled through

Time interval between 2 consecutive dots ( 1 tick) is 1/50s or 0.02s To calculate time: No. of tick x 0.02s dot 1 tick

TEST YOURSELF What are the time taken for:

Besides time taken ticker timer is also used to determine: a) Velocity b) Acceleration c) Types of motion d) Distance HOW TO MEASURE VELOCITY? ACCELERATION?

DETERMINE VELOCITY How may ticks that you can see? Can you calculate the time taken? What are the distance? Thus: VELOCITY = DISTANCE UNIT?? TIME TAKEN cm A B

DETERMINE ACCELERATION Determine time of 1 part Find initial velocity Find final velocity Total time = (Total parts - 1) x time of one part ACCELERATION = v-u t ABCDEF 2cm 8 cm

IMPORTANT!!! *To find acceleration: Total time = (Total parts - 1) x time of one part *To find velocity: Use a normal method without -1 !

TRY THIS!! Find : a) Acceleration b) Average speed cm 7 cm 6 cm

TYPE OF MOTION Distance between dot is same Object moving with constant speed Direction of motion

Distance between dot is increasing Object moving faster / accelerate..... Direction of motion

Direction of motion The object is _____________________

The object is moving very _______________ ……………………………………………. Direction of motion

Ticker timer can be used to determine: (State 4!)

In the study of linear motion of a trolley on a runway; the time taken for the movement of the trolley is recorded by a ticker timer TRUE OR FALSE?

Vibrating steel strip will vibrate _________ times in a second

Draw the diagram of ticker tape that shows the object is moving with decreasing velocity
