Production roles

Today we’re going to start to make a TV show. Our focus for today is investigate production roles and cast the Tv show. As part of Work, we have been looking at Inventing Inventions and using a wiki to convey information. We’ve looked at storyboards and had a quick go at creating our own. The next step is to make the TV show, “Carranballac New Inventors”.

What do you know about making a TV show? Who is involved in making the TV show?

DIRECTOR The director is in charge of everything that happens when the camera is rolling. The director is responsible for how the show looks and making sure the performers know what they are doing and how to do it.

PRODUCER The producer is in charge of everything that’s happening when the camera is not rolling. In a nutshell they get the film made. They organize the set, the actors and make sure everything runs on schedule. In the movie business they convince others to invest money in the film.

CAMERA OPERATOR Operates the camera. Camera operator follows the storyboards and shoots the scenes. The camera operator takes directions from director and is in charge of making the shot look good.

PANELISTS – EXPERTS As we have seen from the new inventors, the panel of experts have to know a little bit about the inventions and the inventors. The expert each ask 2-3 questions and discusses the answers with the inventor.

INVENTORS As we have seen when we watch the New Inventors, the inventor describes their invention shows the design and outlines the benefits. They discuss the invention with the host and panelists.

HOST The host facilitates the whole show. They speak to the audience directly introduce the inventor and question the inventors. They invite questions from the panelists and keep discussion moving. The host must have loads of charisma and personality. A natural show man.

We are going to make two versions of our TV show. So you have to decide on 2 directors, 2 producers, 2 camera operators, 6 panellists and 6 inventors. If anyone is without a role then they are assistants. The primary roles must be filled before you choose assistants. Put your name on the cast list.

Once you have a role you will go to your station where you will get instructions for your activity and a worksheet. The planning for the show should only take two sessions and then will video it class next week. Any questions?
