Exploring the causes, effects, and solutions

 Domestic abuse is any violence or aggressive behavior between two people who are related, live together, or are involved in a relationship.

 Causes of abuse are complex, and researchers often debate over the contributing factors that lead to abuse.  Some of the risk factors that contribute to abuse: ◦ Substance abuse (e.g. drugs, alcohol, or tobacco) by the male and/or female in a relationship. ◦ Inequalities in education, social status, or income within a relationship. ◦ Unemployment ◦ Attempt to establish dominance over one’s partner.

 Murder ◦ About 11% of all homicides in the United states are committed by a current or former intimate partner. ◦ Domestic violence is the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the United States.

 Amy’s House is a local crisis management organization in Lincolnton that ◦ Provides protection, food, shelter, clothing, etc., for victims of domestic violence. ◦ The services are free for victims and their children.
