Solar Eclipse During a solar eclipse, the moon blocks our view of the Sun. It only happens during a new moon. The shadow created by the moon only covers a small area. Not everyone sees a solar eclipse when it occurs.

Tides result from the pull of gravity on the earth, between the earth and moon and between the earth and the sun.
