Sea, Trade and Exploration

There were different types of longships with shorter versions used for transport and longer faster version used for war. Also called dragon ships. The different types of longships; community ships used when the king declared war; standard ships owned by kings and earls and the “great ships” used later in large battles.

Shows that the Vikings created the most radical ship designs. Extreme measurement also produced beauty in the design of these ships. It had a small keel for traversing shallow rivers It was one of the first ships with a square sail and oars.
