Healthy eating

To stay healthy we need to eat a balance and variety of foods. The eatwell plate

We need to eat a balance and variety of foods from these groups. Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods Fruit and vegetables Meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non- dairy sources of protein. Foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar Milk and dairy foods

Fruit and Vegetables We need to eat lots from this group. What foods can you see? How many foods from this group should you eat everyday? Do I belong in this group?

Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta We need to eat lots from this group. What foods can you see? Do these foods come from plants or animals? I belong in this group!

Milk and dairy foods We need to eat some foods from this group everyday. What foods can you see? Have you eaten any of these foods today? If so, what were they?

Meat, fish, eggs, beans We need to eat some foods from this group to stay healthy. What foods can you see?

We only need to eat small amounts from this group. What foods can you see? What do you know about this food group? Foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar

How can we enjoy potatoes in a healthy way? Boil and bake them instead of frying. Have wedges rather than chips. Make mash with a little milk and no butter. Cut potatoes for roasting into bigger pieces so less fat is needed. Do not add butter or creamy sauces.

To be healthy … Eat lots of fruit and vegetables – at least 5 every day. Eat lots of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods.

To be healthy … Eat some foods from the milk and dairy foods group. Eat some foods from the meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein group.

To be healthy … Eat a balance and variety of different foods every day. Enjoy your food!
