Safety First, Fashion Second! Wear athletic type shoes to P.E.! Flip –flops, platform shoes, heels, Croc type shoes or slip-on style shoes are not safe for your children during PE and recess time. Help your child learn to tie shoes. It’s safer! Wear shorts underneath dresses and skirts.

Library Students visit the library twice a week with their classes. On the first visit they will: Listen to a story or portion of a book Learn or research a library skill Hear about various authors and their books On the second visit: Have an opportunity to check out books Library Checkout: Friday

Important Information Folders- please make sure you are checking/signing you child’s folder DAILY Class parties- we will have three parties (Winter/Valentine’s/ EOY) this year. More information will be sent home as time nears. Newsletter-newsletters will be sent on a bi-weekly basis through /paper. Home Packet-A monthly review packet will be sent home or put on your teacher’s website the 1 st week of each month and will be taken out at the end of the month. Please refer to our websites if you lose your packet or need further instruction. Reading Log- Your child is expected to read at least 20 minutes each night. Please read 120 books or more for Million Word Challenge. Snacks- We have a morning community snack. When it gets low we will send out an to the parents. Please make sure you send in dry snacks. Field Trips- More info to come at a later date

Behavior Plan In kindergarten we strive to provide a safe and positive learning community for your child. We will be implementing the Responsive Classroom Approach. Our goal is to respond immediately to your child’s behavior. Your child will be given the opportunity to speak privately with their teacher to re- evaluate their behavior and take a personal break. This will allow your child to internalize self-control, redirect their behavior, and take responsibility for their own choices. If they do make an off task choice during the day, they have the opportunity to improve their behavior by the end of the school day. A tally mark will be recorded inside of your child’s daily folder to represent each time the teacher had to speak with your child. If there are three tally marks, your child will have a note written in their daily folder. We do not send a note home for every tally because that shows you that they were off task but made the decision to get back on task on their own. That’s a celebration! Please sign your child’s folder each day.

Volunteers Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome at Schluter Elementary. You may volunteer services, time, or supplies. We are excited this year because we have a work area for volunteers. Please schedule with your child’s teacher ahead of time. You may volunteer here at school or in the comfort of your own home. Daily opportunities for Library, Art, or Cafeteria All volunteers must be approved by NISD (background check- located on homepage of Schluter website) PTA contact-

Lunchroom We are not able to tell your child what to eat first so please make sure you go over this with them. Parents can not sit at the table with the other students due to safety reasons. There are designated parent tables on the side of the cafeteria. Only your child may sit with you. Water bottles for the classroom will need to stay in the classroom and cannot go to the lunch room. If they need a water bottle for lunch please pack them a separate drink for lunch.

AS A PARENT OF Schluter ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, PLEASE HELP BY… Making sure your child is rested, on time (7:45 a.m.), and prepared for school each day. Knowing how your child is doing in school by communicating with teachers by folder, phone, or . Monitoring your child’s homework and make sure study time is in a quiet place. Limiting TV viewing and read together daily with your child. Being an active participant in your child’s education.

Conferences We will have parent/teacher conferences with all Spur families coming up in October. Please look for an in the near future requesting a registration at Signupgenius.com. And as needed or requested throughout the year.
