Conserving Resources by Recycling More than 90% of trash is buried in giant holes in the ground called landfills Over 9,000 landfills were filled 15 years ago Over 100 plants in the U.S. was burning garbage 15 years ago and the number has doubles since Recycling saves money in several ways Each person in Japan produces only half as much garbage as each person in the U.S. A couple of reasons why people do not want to recycle—people do not want to take the time to separate their garbage and secondly, many state and local governments have not set up a recycling program Students can help by: not buying things in containers that are made to be thrown away; recycle paper, metal, glass, and even plastics; and if there isn’t a recycling program in your area, work to start one

Conserving Resources by Recycling Write out the answers in full You may work alone or those AT YOUR TABLE (if you are sitting alone and want to sit at a table with an empty seat, ask the teacher if you can sit there) When you are done answering the questions, complete the puzzle on the back CHAMPS: Conversation—Level 1 or lower Help—Ask your table buddies or the teacher Activity—Answering recycling questions Movement—Stay in your seat unless you need to sharpen your pencil or get paper towel to blow your nose Participation—Working on the work at a level 1 or lower, not making bad choices This is due today!

Other cities are recycling garbage 3.Recycling saves room in landfills 4.Many people do not want to separate their trash. And many cities and states have been slow to set up recycling programs 5.By not buying things in throwaway containers; by recycling; by starting a recycling program where there is none

Conserving Resources by Recycling—Section B 1.The United States 2.Portugal and Austria. These two countries produce far fewer points of garbage per person per year than the United States 3.Recycling saves room in landfills
