 Places a tax on chemical and petroleum industries  Gives the Federal government the authority to respond to hazardous waste releases that may endanger the public or the environment.  Establishes prohibitions and requirements concerning closed and abandoned hazardous waste sites  Provides liabiliy of persons responsible for releasing hazardous waste at these sites  Establishes a trust fund to provide clean up when the responsible party is unknown Issues Affected: Hazardous Waste Clean Up and Release

The Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for short-term and long-term remedial response actions to temprarily or permenantly reduce the dangers of released hazardous waste materials.
