Some terms Parousia: The second coming of Christ at the end of time, fully realizing God’s plan; Concupiscence: the tendency of all human beings towards sin, as a result of original sin;

Some terms: Original sin: from Latin “origo” – “beginning or birth” Two meanings: - The sin of the first human beings; - The fallen nature state of human nature that affects

How is the fall of Adam and Eve’s original holiness and justice expressed in Genesis, Chapter 3? - Shame of their nakedness - Their hiding from God - Blaming of others for their choices

Explain the deeper meaning of Adam and Eve’s sin of disobedience... - Ate from the tree of knowledge - Full knowledge of good and evil only belongs to God - Human beings can never be God - Adam and Eve are setting themselves up as gods in their own right saying that thy do not need God

Who is affected by Original sin? We are all born with a tendency toward sin. Things that should come naturally to us are now harder and more challenging: - Relationships with one another - Moral decisions - Relationship with God

Spiritual Struggle Struggle between good and evil; Satan – tempting us to reject God and his laws; On the other side: God, the Trinity, helping us to win through Jesus passion, death, resurrection, ascension.

Effects of original sin Original sin affects individuals by: - separating them from God, and - bringing dissatisfaction and guilt into their lives.

On a world scale, original sin explains such things as: greed of materialism genocide war violence and cruelty exploitation of women, the poor, workers abuse of power sexism, racism, other forms of discrimination apathy

Does original sin cause us to lose our goodness? No!! It weakens us, making it harder for us to do good…

Satan and the origin of the demons - Fallen angels who freely and completely reject God; - Old Testament: a member of God’s heavenly court, whose role is to point to God human sinfulness; - New Testament: tempts Jesus in the desert; :represents the powers of evil in the world

Lucifer Angel of light, light bringing He turned away from God’s grace and goodness and became too prideful to serve God. He himself wanted to be god.

Can Satan force us to do anything against our will? No!!! Satan weakens out resistance to temptation; He cannot take away our God-given dignity or our freedom to choose to do good.
