EMMA Visit 19 June 2006 Rationale At LLU+ we are often approached by colleges on a consultative basis to offer training to their numeracy tutors as part of their Continuing Professional Development This workshop illustrates the type of training sessions we offer The session aims to give numeracy practitioners ideas for creating and using materials which could provide an alternative to worksheets

EMMA Visit 19 June 2006 The session Many of the activities in the session were created based on numeracy worksheets, exercises from numeracy books and exam papers The participants work in groups focussing on a question or task in order to structure their discussions (see examples) They are encouraged to visit as many activities as possible and make comments on the Post Its provided At the end of the session, the participants are asked to read the comments as part of the feedback
