A Holy Priesthood What the Levitical Priesthood Teaches Us About Serving God Today (Leviticus 8-10, 21-22)

The Levitical Priesthood ( Hebrews 7:11 ) The commandment of the priests (Lev. 8:1-21) The consecration of the priests (Lev. 8:22-36) The calling of the priests (Lev. 9:1-24) The carelessness of the priests (Lev. 10:1-7) The carefulness of the priests (Lev. 10:8-20) The cleanness of the priests (Lev. 21-22)

The Priesthood Today It was prophesied that there would be priests in the NT church (Ex. 19:6; Isa. 61:6; 66:21) All Christians are priests today (1 Pet. 2:5-9; Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:6) All Christians serve under Jesus, the High Priest (Heb. 2:17; 3:1; 4:14-15; 5:5-6,10; 6:20; 7:11,15,17,26; 8:1; 9:11; 10:21)

The Priesthood Today We do not wear the garments of the Levitical priests, nor do we offer the sacrifices of the Levitical priests in the tabernacle, yet many principles of priestly service are the same We must serve as “holy” priests, separate from sin (1 Pet. 2:1,5,11)

The Priesthood Today The priests must be consecrated to the service of the Lord, just like today (Lev. 8:22,28,29,33; Heb. 10:20) The priests must offer only that which is commanded by the Lord, just like today (Lev. 8:4,5,9,13,17,21,29,31,34,35,36; 9:5,6,7,10,21; 10:1,13,15,18; Col. 3:17) The priests had to be sober teachers, just like today (Lev. 10:8-11; Tit. 2:2,4,6,12)

The Priesthood Today The priests could not become unclean, just like today (Lev. 21:1; 22:3; Gal. 5:19) The priests had marriage restrictions, just like today (Lev. 21:7,13-14; Mt. 19:9; Rom. 7:2-3) The priests had to keep pure families, just like today (Lev. 21:9; Eph. 6:1-4) The priests had to offer the best, just like today (Lev. 22:21; Rom. 12:1)

The Priesthood Today The priesthood is an honorable charge to be cherished greatly The priesthood is a serious charge, not to be taken lightly
