Five Chapters that can change your life! (If you let it) Hebrews 6-10

Chapter 7 Of Hebrews argues like a brilliant trial lawyer. The law (old covenant) is on the stand and the body of evidence is being presented in favor of the New Covenant. In rapid fire succession the evidence comes in, hammering away at the the old way of drawing near to God.

28 verses of evidence! There is a new High Priest in town There is record of another High Priest besides Aaron This High Priest is better then Abraham and better than Aaron. The fact that we hold: is that, there is record of another High Priest. If that is true, than Aaron isn’t the only choice!

Why is a High Priest so important? Because you cannot approach God on your own. Someone needs to go before you into God’s presence. This someone, is God’s own choosing and God’s own way. Any other way or person, and you die!

11-17 Another Priest out there who lives forever? The fact of this means, that Aaron and the Levitical priesthood were not the final solution. If it was, there would not be another Priest. Jesus was from the tribe of Judah not Levi. If the Priesthood changed then so did the law because it was given under the Priesthood of Aaron!

18-22 the Law was annulled because it was unable to save us. The Priests never sat down because sin was never finished. There is a better hope now! God gave an oath to anchor it for us!

23-28 This new Priesthood and Priest do not change. It is eternal Jesus’ sacrifice once for all time means it is finished. And He sat down at the right hand of the Throne, of the Majesty on High. There is no longer any other sacrifice for sin!

We have such a High Priest who… 7: is holy, 2.innocent, 3.undefiled, 4.separate from sinners, 5.has become higher than the heavens;

6. who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, 7. for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

8. For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, 9. but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son 10. who has been perfected forever.

Do you see why this High Priest thing is so important? Once again in Heb 8 We have such a High Priest, Hebrews 8: who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

12. a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. 13. He has gifts and sacrifices to offer! 14. Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

Highlights of things to know Jesus has a ministry Jesus is Our High Priest, without Him there is no other way to approach God. Jesus is a minister just like the High Priest only better! You have to have someone go in before you. God is unapproachable otherwise.

Jesus’ ministry is more excellent! He has a ministry, if we are to be rescued, He must go into the Holy of Holies and offer gifts and sacrifices for us. Into Heaven itself!
