Background Vocabulary

Our story, Two Days in May, is about deer that find their way into the city. Let’s find out what we know about deer.

Deer live on every continent except Antarctica. Where do deer live? Deer live on every continent except Antarctica. Deer can usually be found in places where there are woods and grassy areas. The deer use the woods for cover and shelter and the grassy areas for food.

DEER What do deer eat? Deer usually eat: Grass, leaves, stems, berries, herbs, acorns, mushrooms, wild fruit and farm crops like corn and soy beans.

DEER Male deer are usually called bucks. Female deer are usually called does. Young deer are usually called fawns or calves.
