Goal:  Support our transition to Common Core State Standards for College- Readiness Common Core iPad Rollout 3

 Alliance schools have always been on the cutting edge of instruction and schooling for students in Los Angeles.  Our transition to Common Core State Standards, supported by the implementation of Pearson Common Core content that is loaded on student iPads, will continue to support innovative teaching to prepare our students for college success and beyond. Purpose 4

 New exams will replace current California Standardized Tests that students take at the end of each school year.  The new exams will assess the student level of understanding in each subject and each grade level with questions that are aligned to the new Common Core State Standards.  IMPORTANT - the adaptive exam will increase in difficulty as students answer more questions correctly. This will provide a more accurate assessment of our student proficiency.  Click on the link below to experience the difference between traditional paper exams and the adaptive assessments. How will we prepare your child for the exam with an iPad? Pearson English and Math Courses has been loaded on student iPads to support child’s learning and use of technology. 8

 Middle School - All students will be assigned an iPad to prepare for this transition. What does this mean? 9 iPads will be distributed on Thursday & Friday July 10 th & 11 th

1.Review the Acceptable Use Policy with your child. 2.You will be responsible for any willful damage done to an iPad (school property) by your child. 3.Guide your child on internet safety. Parent Responsibilities 10

 Keep iPad in backpack during passing periods, nutrition, and lunch  Treat it as if it were their own  Follow our schools check-in and check- out policy  Keep case on iPads at all times.  Never leave the iPad unattended! Your child’s responsibility 11

Students and Parents will sign the Student Pledge before the iPad is issued.  Do not deface the iPad or the case  iPad is subject to inspection at any time  Students will adhere to Cyber-bullying, Internet Safety, and appropriate online behavior policies as outlined in the Alliance Ouchi-O’Donovan 6-8 Learning Complex Student-Parent Handbook iPad Policies: Student Pledge 12

 Do not remove profiles from your iPad  Profiles are used to enhance the learning experience  Profiles allow IT staff to manage iPads remotely (Ex. Pushing out district approved Apps) iPad Policies: Profiles & Controls 13

 Pre-loaded apps and content are owned by the school district  Students are NOT permitted to load their own apps  See Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for explicit policies regarding downloading applications (i.e. non-educational Apps not allowed) iPad Policies: Apps 14

 Students are not allowed to take iPads home. iPad Policies: Take Home 15

 Keep your iPad under your control at all times  Don’t leave iPad unattended or in the care of a friend.  You will be liable for negligence that results in the loss of the device. iPad: Theft Protection 16

 Students should report any damage to the immediate teacher for further evaluation. Responsibility will be determined after the tablet is sent for repair.  Students will be held responsible for ALL damage to their tablet including, but not limited to, broken screens, damaged metal casing, cracked plastic pieces, inoperability, etc.  There will be a one time $50.00 deductible that must be paid to cover damages. The entire cost must be paid if it occurs again. iPad Policies: Damage 17
