 Jacob Moers Senior Service Learning Project

Introduce Yourself  I take 5 classes. Economics, Math, English, and Government are my required classes and I also take a Business Co op Class which allows me to get out of school early in order to have more time to complete my homework before actually going into work.  I am in no extra curricular activities currently. Even though I did play basketball and football at Mater Dei my freshman and sophomore year.

Introduce Yourself  In my near future, I plan to attend college and study at the University of Southern Indiana. I have a couple ideas of what I want to study there, but I still haven’t made my mind up for sure and don’t really plan to until a few more years down the road.

Community Organization  Evansville Rescue Mission  The Evansville rescue mission’s goal is to help out unfortunate people who are going through a hard time, or just don’t have the necessary tools to get by the way we see as normal.

Community Organization  Mentor  My Mentor’s name was Tori. She was a great mentor and taught me a lot of helpful things that I will continue to use throughout my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to guide me through this experience.

Project  For my volunteering, I did a number of things.  I worked in the kitchen and helped prepare and serve food.  I helped organize and run events like the Gobler Gathering which is a big thanksgiving giveaway of food to unfortunate people who wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise.  I also did a lot of office work like sort papers, and make phone calls to gather donations.

Project  Challenges: Some challenges we faced were schedules, timing, getting donations, and weather.  Achievements: The Gobler Gathering was a great success. It felt awesome to give without getting back and seeing how much of a positive impact on the people it had was a great feeling.

Project  What this project has taught me is that everyone can use a hand every once in a while and to not judge a book by it’s cover. There’s always more than meets the eye when it comes to people.

Conclusion  In Conclusion, I had a great time helping out people who needed it and had a great time meeting those new people. I definitely plan on continuing to volunteer down at the Rescue Mission after this is all over. This was a great experience and I enjoyed every minute of it.
