A day at Dinu’s Indian restaurant: From Bangladesh to Munich
This is Dinu. He is from Bangladesh, a country in South Asia, next to India.
He was born in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhakar. Most Bangladeshi people speak more than one language, like Bengali, English and Urdu.
Today, Dinu lives in Munich with his four brothers, his wife and his three children. He has one girl and two boys. Here you can see an Indian wedding.
But why did Dinu move to Munich?
Take a guess! a)He came because he had a German wife. b)He came because he likes German food. c)He came because he had to leave Bangladesh. d)He came because he bought a magazine about Munich and the Olympic Games in 1972 when he was in 6 th grade.
Lets ask him!
What do we know about Dinu so far? Dinu is from Bangladesh. Now he lives in Munich with his family. He came to Munich because he liked an article about the Olympic Games in Munich. Dinu has four brothers. He has a wife and three children. Dinu likes Munich.
Dinu’s life is good in Munich. But somestimes he missed the food from Bangladesh. Dinu had an idea: to open a Bangladashi restaurant! Today Dinu is the proud owner of three Indian restaurants.
In Dinu’s restaurant, the chefs cook in a “tandoori” oven with coal.
They even grill bread there! It is called “naan” and it tastes very good.
But first, the dough must be prepared.
The chef’s name is Singh. He is making naan bread in the tandoori oven.
Now it is ready to eat!
It’s time for lunch. Singh has prepared delicious dishes and the nice waiter is serving the specialities.
“Su tripti”! This means: “Enjoy your lunch!” in Bengali.
