Co-educational school Boarding school Specialist school SCHOOL TYPES Public school Private school Single-sex school Co-educational school

Private School Independent from local or national government. Have right to select students Funded by charging students for tuition

Advantages of private schools Smaller class sizes Better books/supplies Up to date computers Flexible curriculum More freedom

Public (State) Schools Offered and paid for by the government. Available (and compulsory) for all Regulated by the state

Advantages of state schools All teachers are state certified You can complain to officials (and federal laws can be applied if they are not responsive) Free tuition No entrance exam

Can not charge for tuition Must admit all children Must follow all state and local laws about education Offer general curriculum for all children Overcrowded classes Low funds Lack of freedom and individualism Expensive Entrance exam Teachers are not required to have a teaching degree Flexible curriculum Smaller classes Better supplies Less standardized

If you had an opportunity, would you change your school for a private one?

Boarding Schools Place, where children study and live during the school year Boarding school pupils normally come back home for holidays (and sometimes weekends) Pupils sleep in dormitories and have a “lights out” time which depends on their age

What is the most famous “boarding school” that you know? If you were offered to study in a boarding school, would you agree? Would it be difficult for you to leave your family?

Single-sex Schools Male and female students attend separate classes, live in separate buildings, go to separate schools There can be all-girls or all-boys schools. A controversial topic. On the one hand, students achieve better results while studying in single-sex schools. On the other hand, some specialists believe that such students are going to have behavioral difficulties.

Do you think single-sex schools are better than co-educational Do you think single-sex schools are better than co-educational? Why or why not?
