 1. Listening for understanding › The big idea  2. Listening for specific information › Example: time, place  3. Listening to establish a context › Where, When, Who  4. Listening for later discussions › Later dialogue, sharing information

 Students need to learn › 1) Strategies that they can use to help themselves › 2) Appropriate vocabulary for the context › 3) Self-confidence in tackling listening tasks

 Warm-up – establishing context – activating prior knowledge  Vocabulary for both predicting content and comprehending it.  Establish a task.  Listen more than once.  Let students work together to build understanding.
