ATLAS Outreach March 2011 We are beginning fundraising. We need your help! Due to US budget situation, we are focusing more on private sources. Approx. half of budget is available as in-kind, and $ k is to be raised. Website: Fundraising

ATLAS Outreach March 2011 The Mural becomes a backdrop

ATLAS Outreach March 2011 Google street views The big activity for For ATLAS, see Claudia’s talk. Press Office concentrated all the underground image captures. That included all the experimental caverns and about 5-6km of tunnel. Google will be coming back to film surface locations later in the year. Also with Google, the DG has agreed to be a judge for the Google Science Fair, and CERN is offering a prize of a three-day visit for one of the winners. We're looking for exciting things for the winner to do, so if ATLAS could offer to host them on a shift, for example, that would be great. CERN Press Office (from James Gillies)

ATLAS Outreach March 2011 Peter Ginter's photographs An Austrian publisher (Lammerhuber) wishes to make a very glossy book about CERN featuring Peter's pictures. The project has the DG's support, and Peter came to CERN earlier in the year for new photos. We used the opportunity to discuss use of the existing images with him. As a result, the high-res files corresponding to the pictures he took under contract to us in 2003, which we've had on disk for some time but did not release to you, are now being made available for internal use CERN and the experiments. CERN Press Office (from James Gillies)

ATLAS Outreach March 2011 Peter Ginter's photographs We have agreed not to put copies of these pictures on-line, although contractually we have the right to do so, until a date still to be agreed with Lammerhuber. Peter wishes to come back next month for some surface pictures and we are currently negotiating a contract with him for this. Essentially, we want to have the same rights to the new pictures as we have to the old ones - full resolution for our own use; low resolution to distribute; any third party requests for high resolution files referred to Peter. We have made it clear to Peter that we need a signed contract before he comes back. CERN Press Office (from James Gillies)

ATLAS Outreach March 2011 With the LHC up and running, we are embarking on a new communication plan. It is too early to present the plan to you (it doesn't yet exist!). But I'd like to reassure everyone that we will not revisit things that we've already agreed on, such as the information flow for big results. We will ensure that there's adequate time for discussion with key stakeholders like the experiments before I submit anything to CERN management. CERN Press Office (from James Gillies)
